Hello, everyone! Have you ever considered the true impact of incorporating a cheat day into your lifestyle or diet plan? It's a common practice for many and is even promoted by some of the biggest health influencers. But is it really the best approach? Today, I'm here to share some eye-opening insights that might just make you rethink this approach. Drawing from my experiences with our GetREAL Nourish Lifestyle clients  I'll uncover the hidden downsides of cheat days and introduce a more sustainable, mindful way to satisfy your cravings. Let's dive into why treating yourself smartly and more often can lead to greater success.

The Deceptive Calorie Double


First off, let's talk numbers.
Many of us believe that having a cheat day is a harmless break in our diet routine.

However, it turns out that the caloric intake on these days can be significantly more than you realize. Working with clients who used cheat days revealed they were consuming double what they thought and sometimes even more!
This revelation often surprises our clients at GetREAL. This plays havoc with the metabolic system, stalling or even reversing progress.

Cravings vs. Reality


Next, there's the issue of eating foods that, upon reflection, we don't truly desire.
The anticipation of a cheat day can lead us to compile a mental list of treats. Yet, when the time comes, that longing might have passed, leaving us consuming out of obligation to our 'cheat day plan' rather than actual desire.

This mismatch between anticipation and actual craving reveals a gap in how we address our food desires.

The Body's Confusion

 

Lastly, consider the shock to your system.

Eating clean six days a week followed by a sudden influx of indulgent food and drink can send your body into a tailspin. Large fluctuations in caloric intake - the feast or famine cycle disrupts the metabolic system. Causing your metabolism to slow down and may cause the body to hold onto fat.

This not only disrupts your physical well-being but also requires days to rebalance, affecting your progress and how you feel overall.

A Nourishing Alternative: Treats, Not Cheats


So, what's the solution?
At Get REAL, we advocate for treats, not cheats.

This approach encourages indulging in smaller portions of desired foods throughout the week, rather than a single, overwhelming cheat day.

It's a strategy that has led our clients to more consistent and healthy weight loss.

By reframing indulgences as treats rather than cheats helps remove the guilt and shame associated with certain foods.
You can enjoy the occasional treat without feeling like you’ve ruined your progress, which fosters a healthier mindset around food. With a “treats” approach, you focus on overall consistency rather than perfection. One treat won’t derail your progress if you’re consistent the majority of the time.

This mindset allows for flexibility without feeling like you are sabotaging your goals and makes the journey a more enjoyable, guilt-free one and takes the shame away that is often associated with food.
